The team at Midwest Heart Foundation is passionate about exploring new devices, products, and procedures through studies conducted at many hospitals and clinics. We believe that research is essential to the advancement of knowledge and science and supports the best clinical practices. More importantly, research findings benefit patients by providing the most accurate and up-to- date information. This enables the practitioner and patient to make educated choices in the plan of treatment. By being involved in research, Midwest Heart Foundation is able to bring cutting edge products and procedures to patients that may not be readily available elsewhere.
Midwest Heart Foundation is involved in sponsored studies as part of the FDA approval process. The research team also develops investigator initiated studies (research that we develop ourselves). Many of the doctors, nurses and staff at Midwest Heart Foundation are also scientists and are actively involved in performing research, writing research, acting on advisory councils and safety monitoring boards (PUBLICATIONS). Only a few doctors across the world are asked to lead the research studies in which we are involved. In order to do this our team is qualified in proper procedures for conducting clinical studies and certified in Good Clinical Practice and CITI trained.
Midwest Heart Foundation continually seeks individuals to participate in research studies (STUDY VOLUNTEERS). Generally, participation offers the patient the product or treatment at no cost to the patient. Our team works with the patient’s primary care physician and primary cardiologist to coordinate the patient’s involvement in the study.
Training in research is another dimension of Midwest Heart Foundation. We offer internships in research to interested individuals. During that experience the individual will get hands-on experience with the scientific research process, regulatory process, and writing process.
